The 2017 Rural Oscars

The Countryside Alliance Awards, nicknamed the ‘Rural Oscars’, are now in their 13th year. Thousands of nominations have been submitted honouring the skills and produce, tradition, enterprise and the people who go the extra mile for their communities. New to 2017 is a pub category, enabling us all to celebrate the iconic rural local.

From thousands of nominations seven regional champions from five categories will be invited to Parliament for the British finals, and in the presence of MPs and Ministers just five will be crowned British Champions.

Regional champions will be announced in March 2018, with Welsh businesses attending a special reception at the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff. The regional champions then advance to the British final, which will be held in April 2018 at the House of Lords.

Our categories are:

  • Local food/ drink
  • Village Shop/ Post Office
  • Britain's Best Butcher
  • Rural Enterprise
  • Britain's Best Pub

The Awards will follow the same format as in previous years:

  • September - November - public nomination.
  • November - regional finalists notified - meet them here: . Our regions are Wales, North, East, Midlands, South East, South West. (NB the Scottish Countryside Alliance runs a separate scheme.)
  • New Year - regional judging will take place and regional champions will be announced. Welsh Champions will be declared at a reception at the Senedd in Cardiff on 7th March and other regional champions will be declared on a rolling basis from there. All regional champions will then be invited to the grand final at Parliament and their merits will be considered by a panel of experts, chaired by Countryside Alliance Chief Executive Tim Bonner.
  • 25th April - The Grand Final will be held at Parliament. All regional champions will be invited. British Champions will be announced at this event.
